Concrete creates a moisture environment that accelerates the decay of the posts right at the line where the posts meet the concrete. Additionally concrete gives the frost more area to grab the posts and push it out of the ground. Limestone helps to avoid this problem that the concrete creates.
I aim at 36-40 inches which is one third of the height of the post that is sticking out (6ft) Going less than that is compromising on the strength of the fence.
I install fences with a 6ft spacing between the posts. This offers better strength compared to the 8ft spacing.
I use brown treated wood for the fence. Ground contact rated posts for the ground and above ground rated wood for the rails and pickets.
The pricing depends on the size of the project - smaller projects cost more per foot and larger projects are less per foot of wood fence. The price ranges anywhere from $35 - $55 per foot of wood fence.
Yes, i offer wood fence staining. After the installation the fence boards need to weather out a bit ( a month or two) and then its time to apply waterproof stain on them.
